But He Won't Be In The Game!

Story Highlights
  • Antony Starr will not voice Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1.
  • The actor claims that he was open to it.
  • This could point to a disagreement between the actor and Warner Bros.

It has been a while since Mortal Kombat 1 was released, and it has sold over 3 million copies.

The game is doing well in terms of sales, and fans are loving the gory nature of the latest entry. Adding to the excitement, NetherRealm Studios has confirmed that Homelander and Omni-man will join the roster.

However, it was recently revealed that Antony Starr would not voice Homelander, which disappointed many fans. Following this comment, the actor revealed that he was willing to voice Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1.

Why it matters: Omni-Man recently joined the roster, and his portrayal has been very authentic, thanks to J.K. Simmons reprising his role. Therefore, fans expected similar treatment for Homelander.

A fan recently commented on Antony Starr’s Instagram, asking about the actor’s decision to stay away from Mortal Kombat 1. Antony replied:

“I was open to it.”

This suggests that the final decision was made due to disagreements between the actor and Warner Bros.

Antony Starr may have asked for a much bigger contract than Warner Bros was willing to offer, leading to the studio’s reliance on a completely different voice for Homelander.

The actor has already proven that he isn’t opposed to voice acting for video games, working with Call of Duty in the past. However, he will not be returning for the more appropriate Homelander gaming adaptation.

In the past, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros resorted to a similar measure for Terminator. While Arnold Schwarzenegger is known as the face of the character, he did not lend his voice to the game.

Still, this will be disappointing for fans of The Boys. We also can’t see Homelander without Antony Starr portraying the character, so it will be interesting to see how the character is received in Mortal Kombat 1.

While Antony Starr did not elaborate beyond this statement, others have speculated that the main reason for him skipping the role had to do with scheduling issues.

A new season of The Boys is coming soon, so the voice actor is likely juggling multiple things at the moment, leaving little room for gaming voiceover.

Still, Omni-Man and Peacemaker, the other two guest characters in Kombat Pack 1, will be voiced by their original actors. Therefore, fans can look forward to Peacemaker as the next authentic guest character in Mortal Kombat 1.
