Story Highlight
  • AMD is preparing to launch the Ryzen 9000 series soon, including the Ryzen 9 9950X with Zen 5 architecture.
  • The Ryzen 9 9950X scored 53,557 points in benchmarks, making it the fastest 16-core CPU, though it still trails Intel’s Core i9-14900KS.
  • The Ryzen 9000 lineup will be available on July 31st, with pricing yet to be announced.

Later this month, AMD will introduce its Ryzen 9000 CPUs based on the Zen 5 architecture. AMD’s Zen 5 range will comprise the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, Ryzen 5 9600X, and a new function dubbed Curve Shaper for overclocking and undervolting.

Among the bunch, the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X was recently tested both in stock and overclocked settings, showing some excellent performance compared to its competition. AMD has now released several performance benchmarks for the Ryzen 9 9950X during its Tech Day.

Why it matters: This lineup of CPUs is shaping up to be quite exciting for gamers worldwide, who are looking forward to major upgrades in the CPU department.

Based on the benchmarks revealed, the Ryzen 9 9950X scored 41,924 points. This score is nearly identical to Intel’s current flagship, the Core i9 14900KS. However, after the chip is optimized, it significantly outperforms the Intel CPU.

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X now has a leading score of 43,905 points with a PBO+EXPO tune, 45,303 points with Curve Shaper, and the highest LN2 overclock to date of 53,557 points, making it the fastest 16-core CPU on Cinebench R23.

That being said, the Ryzen 9 9950X could not surpass the global record set by the Intel Core i9-14900KS, which ran its 24 cores at a frequency of 7.5GHz, leading by 5% when comparing LN2 scores.

AMD has announced that the new CPUs will be available on July 31st; however, the pricing of the different processors has not yet been disclosed. Since the launch is just two weeks away, pricing and other information should follow soon.
