According to 3DCenter, the 9990X3D will outperform the 9950X3D in terms of gaming performance, putting it around +2.4% ahead of the formidable 9800X3D.

No one should have high expectations regarding the FPS gains. In truth, the vast majority will not choose this model, which is destined to destroy everything. However, those looking for the best in all areas are in luck.

And that’s where AMD aims to hit: the best performance in all categories, without sacrificing a balance of power consumption and pricing.

  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D -> 101.6%
  • AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D -> 100.0%
  • AMD Ryzen 9 9950X -> 81.0%
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9700X -> 79.2%

As we can see, the base, or 100%, is located in the 9950X3D, which makes sense because the 9990X3D has the same vertical cache in both CCDs, and logically, each chiplet will be gold type in AMD’s binning, so it will not be cheap, nor will there be many units available.

The problem is that it will fall far behind in terms of FPS ratio per euro invested and watts per FPS ratio. It’s only for those unwilling to compromise, able to cool over 200W under load, and ready to spend big.

It must be determined whether the presumed +4% is outweighed by an increase in latency between the separate CCDs, given the significant amount of L3 due to the extra vertical cache, which, regardless of our preferences, should be penalized according to architectural principles.
