The ongoing memory crisis has severely curtailed the purchasing power of gamers around the globe. Thanks to the hike in SSD, DRAM, and CPU costs, 60% of gamers aren’t looking to build a new gaming rig in the next two years.
AMD’s Radeon 9000 series graphics cards have been no exception to this trend, seeing a surge in price twice this year, bringing their retail cost closer to Nvidia GPUs. However, the RDNA 4 GPUs are surprisingly exempt from the memory crisis in Japan, shockingly falling below their MSRP in the region.
Why it matters: As demand dwindles for new PC parts due to rising costs, retailers could revert to selling products at a discount to recoup some losses.
According to a report from Gazlog, Radeon RX 9070 XT, the flagship RDNA 4 GPU, is now available for an all-time low cost of $552 in Japan. The GPU is currently retailing for 87,800 Yen in the country, which is much lower than its official MSRP of 112,980 Yen.
In the last three months alone, the Radeon 9000 series graphics card has dropped by $140 (22,200 Yen) in Japan, going from 110,000 Yen to its current price. Both the Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 XT and ASRock RX 9070 XT Challenger variants are available for below 90,000 Yen, their lowest price yet.
The budget edition of the Radeon 9000 Series, RX 9060 XT 16 GB, has also experienced a similar decrease in cost in Japan. The graphics card can now be bought for just $332 (52,800 Yen), lower than its $349 launch price in the United States.
Hence, after a period of hefty price increases due to higher VRAM costs, it looks like the GPU market is crumbling in the region as demand has dwindled. The AMD GPU series seems like the only PC component to benefit from this anomaly, as the company’s Ryzen CPU line is only increasing in price.
