FTC Is Likely To Approve Microsoft Activision Merger After 2-2 Tie

Commission Now Has 2-2 Tie In Any Vote On The Acquisition!

Not long ago, the Microsoft Activision Blizzard deal was approved in Serbia. Due to that, Microsoft’s deal is now approved in 3 countries out of 8. Microsoft has been facing many problems regarding this deal, but now we can see how the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will approve this deal.

First, only Wilson supported the merger, but now according to the latest report, one more member of the panel examining the offer is inclined in this direction. According to New York Post, Rebecca Slaughter, the former FTC chair, has joined the camp.

The deal was being reviewed by the sole Republican commissioner Christine Wilson and three Democratic commissioners, Rebecca Slaughter, Alvaro Bedoya, and FTC Chair Lina Khan. Now 2 are in favor of the deal, which means the commission will have a 2-2 tie in any vote on the proposed acquisition.

Microsoft has been waiting a long time for this deal to be approved as it is one of the biggest deals ever made, and now we can see the hope of it getting approved by the FTC. Moreover, in this matter, the former FTC chairman William Kovacic said:

“Lina would probably not put things in a position for that to take place, so instead of having that vote she would make the motion to approve the settlement.”

Not only did he say this, but he also said that the probability of the deal getting approved is 70%. As Microsofts spoke person said:

“As we have said before, we are prepared to address the concerns of regulators, including the FTC, and Sony to ensure the deal closes with confidence.”

This means that Microsoft is ready to receive support from its regulators. According to Reuters, a 10-year licensing agreement with Sony to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation may be one of these concessions.

It is hard to believe the FTC, who considered blocking the merger, will now approve the deal, but it is more likely to happen. Still, a recommendation on the deal will be made by mid-December, so until that, we can’t be sure what will happen.

For now, this whole situation seems to favor Microsoft, but who knows what the future holds? Aside from that, what do you think of this report? Will FTC approve Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard deal? Let us know in the comments section.
