In addition to announcing the Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX for December 13, AMD also announced that team is working on a new iteration of its scaling technology, coming in the first half of 2023.

FSR 3 will combine AMD’s super-resolution technology with the new Fluid Motion Frame technology to deliver more FPS by boosting performance when games run at very demanding settings (such as 4K). AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT “RDNA 3” graphics cards will be among the first products to feature FSR 3 support.

AMD FSR 3.0

Regarding performance, AMD’s FSR 3 will offer up to twice the performance boost of FSR 2 in 4K resolution. AMD showed a demo of Unreal Engine 5 in which an FPS jump from 60 (FSR 2) to 112 (FSR 3) is observed. Currently, there is no information on the modes and how Fluid Motion Frame technology works, but Red camp is expected to reveal more details in the coming weeks.

In addition, AMD also showed a demo of Beckoning, a short film that Sava Zivkovic and his team were able to create with FSR 3 in just four months. The demo ran smoothly and showed great visuals with Unreal Engine 5.

In addition, AMD is introducing a significant update to its drivers with HYPER-RX technology, a feature that will improve game performance and latency with just one click.

In games like Dying Light 2, AMD claims up to 85% better performance and 1/3 of the latency over current drivers. HYPER-RX appears to be a competitor to NVIDIA Reflex and DLSS technologies combined.
