PlayStation Is Telling Everyone That Exclusives Are Back!

Story Highlight
  • Sony has added a new “PlayStation Exclusive” badge to first-party games like Ghost of Yotei.
  • Not all games have the badge yet, so the gaming giant is likely in the early stages of this campaign.
  • Fans can expect PlayStation to heavily advertise exclusivity for upcoming titles like Ghost of War: Laufey.

PlayStation hasn’t had an active presence in the PC games market for nearly a year, choosing instead to focus on the PS5 console experience.

As part of this focus, the gaming giant is no longer expected to bring titles like Ghost of Yotei or Marvel’s Wolverine to the PC segment. In fact, the gaming giant appears to have brought back the “PlayStation Exclusive” branding.

Why it matters: PlayStation briefly shifted away from exclusivity, launching flagship IPs like The Last of Us, Spider-Man, and God of War on PC. However, the gaming giant has now gone back to its roots of exclusive offerings.

As seen on the PlayStation website, games like Ghost of Yotei and Until Dawn 2 appear to be showing a “PlayStation Exclusive” badge on their store pages.

Note that this badge seems to have begun rolling out only recently, and it does not currently show up on all first-party titles. Looking at the likes of Astro Bot, Gran Turismo 7 and Marvel’s Wolverine, this badge has yet to show up for those games.

Still, this branding shows once again how PlayStation is going all in on exclusivity. In fact, fans have compared the new badge to Sony’s “Only on PlayStation” slogan from before the gaming giant entered the PC market with first-party ports.

Because PlayStation has faced plenty of negativity recently, mainly due to rising console prices and the decision to end physical disc production, the gaming giant will likely do all it can to drive home the point that its first-party games will now be exclusively available on the PS5.

As such, it would not be shocking to see this branding show up for upcoming titles like God of War: Laufey from the beginning.

According to PlayStation, the return to exclusivity is part of broader goals to improve the gaming experience on consoles. Therefore, it will be very interesting to see how things pan out for the PS5’s remaining lifespan.
