- Arrowhead has said Helldivers 3 is not currently being worked on.
- Johan Pilestedt believes a sequel would only make sense if it was very different from Helldivers 2.
- He also notes that a sequel isn’t necessarily needed due to ongoing player interest in the game.
Nearly three years after its strong release, Helldivers 2 is still going strong. In fact, there has even been discussion regarding Helldivers 3 recently.
Amid excitement for a potential third game, however, Arrowhead says that nothing is currently in the works. As per the studio, there really isn’t a need for a sequel right now.
Why it matters: Helldivers 2 became an unexpected success that many did not see coming, raising expectations even higher for the sequel.

Arrowhead Game Studios does not seem interested in rushing toward Helldivers 3 while Helldivers 2 remains active and successful. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt said the next numbered entry is not being planned at the moment.
The reason is that the current entry is still doing well, and Arrowhead does not see a clear need to move away from it just yet. He also discussed the element of having to start over when a brand new game launches.
On the other hand, he feels continued support for an existing game turns the game into a continuous hobby for the players.
While you have an active community, you don’t need a sequel.

During the same interview, Pilestedt also said a third game would only make sense if it was different enough that Helldivers 2 and Helldivers 3 could exist side by side.
