- Witcher 3 Remastered Edition features an in-depth combat and skill tree overhaul.
- These changes are heavily inspired by Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 update redesign and will carry over to the DLC.
- The remastered edition also greatly improves Geralt’s animations, finishers, and exploration movement.
Despite facing criticism for performance issues and visuals, The Witcher 3 Remastered Edition has become this year’s highest-rated title with its massive gameplay improvements. The reception shows CD Projekt Red’s evolution since the RPG launched a decade ago.
CDPR’s Pawel Sasko says these major changes, like the combat overhaul and skill tree revamp, are heavily inspired by Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 redesign, and they will also carry over to the game’s DLC.
Why it matters: The Witcher 3 Remastered Edition feels like a whole new RPG, but this transformation was only possible after CDPR gained hard-earned lessons by handling and improving Cyberpunk 2077 over the years.

While speaking in an interview with VGC, Pawel Sasko says CDPR analyzed the opinions of critics and gamers to address Witcher 3’s biggest weakness in the remaster, openly calling its combat the greatest shortcoming.
There is also a revamped skill tree, and here we used a lot of the experience from the Cyberpunk 2.0 version.

Therefore, CDPR massively improved Geralt’s moveset, including animations, finishers, and exploration movement. All these changes were made to make Witcher 3 feel consistent across the remastered edition and all the DLCs, including Songs of the Past.
We learned a lot on Cyberpunk 2077. […] Things that we introduced for the first time, which were basically premiered in Cyberpunk at that time, we are now bringing to Remaster because we know how it works.
The remastered edition also brings a lot of technical overhauls, such as improved weather, actual reflections, ray tracing, and path tracing, which were only possible after CDPR worked with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel on the Cyberpunk 2077 upscalers over the years.

Regardless, Sasko reveals the idea for this remaster existed since CDPR released the game’s next-gen update in 2022, slowly sprouting into a full-fledged project.
