Remedy Entertainment has established itself as among the most successful AAA studios in recent years, with Control 2 shattering all player and critic expectations. The game’s positive reception has also made fans excited for what’s to come next from this talented team.
However, the studio is already working on a new game besides the already-known Max Payne 1+2 remakes, which have been in development for multiple years and are likely set for a 2027 release.
Alan Wake 2 director Kyle Rowley has been leading this unannounced entry for nearly two years now, which has led many fans to suspect it could be the next mainline Alan Wake entry in the franchise.
Why it matters: While a new mainline Alan Wake project makes sense, this unannounced title may also turn out to be a whole separate thing entirely. Some fans have theorized that Remedy could be working with Microsoft on a new Quantum Break game, for example.
Kyle Rowley’s LinkedIn profile mentions that he’s been ‘co-directing an unannounced game’ since January 2025. He has also co-directed Alan Wake 2 and its DLCs. From delivering the game’s concept to defining core pillars, he’s played a massive role in its development.
This one is a more out-there theory: Kyle is also known for his lead director role in the Quantum Break entry, which has led some fans to argue Remedy could be teaming with Microsoft to develop Quantum Break 2.
Regardless, we do know that Remedy has been considering the development of Alan Wake 3 and Control 3 in its future project roadmap, which can be seen below. So, Remedy working on a new Alan Wake entry makes more sense.
Alan Wake 3 and Control 3 are targeting 2029 and 2030 release windows, respectively, which are subject to change in the future. We might learn more about this unannounced entry over the coming months as its development progresses.
