- Build A Rocket Boy is reportedly closing after MindsEye failed to gain traction.
- Multiple reports point to layoffs and the studio being closed altogether.
- MindsEye marked Build a Rocket Boy’s first game, but the title ended up being a complete failure.
MindsEye launched last year, and the game immediately caught everyone’s attention, mainly due to the involvement of ex-Rockstar president Leslie Benzies.
The game promised to be an ever-evolving platform for players to build upon, effectively offering infinite amounts of content. However, MindsEye ended up being one of gaming’s biggest failures to date, and it appears studio Build A Rocket Boy has now been shut down.
Why it matters: Build A Rocket Boy attempted to revive MindsEye with updates and post-launch support following its botched release, but the game failed to make an impact in any meaningful way.

Build A Rocket Boy, the developer behind MindsEye, is shutting down following the game’s poor reception and internal layoffs. According to multiple employees, the studio has made everyone else that was left redundant as of today.
As noted by Senior VFX Artist Jason Waller, Build A Rocket Boy has effectively been shut down as of today. Lead Weapon Artist Adam Ridsdale shared a similar message, confirming that everyone at the studio has been let go.
Along with the rest of my colleagues at Build a Rocket Boy, I am facing redundancy.
-Adam Ridsdale
MindsEye was practically forgotten immediately after its release, so this outcome isn’t exactly surprising. With GTA 6 also on the horizon, the entire industry’s attention is on Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world adventure.
This is interesting since many were hoping to see a GTA-like experience from MindsEye, which it failed to deliver.
