- Bungie has delayed Marathon’s next major update and permanent PvE mode to December.
- The studio is also moving away from a strict seasonal content schedule.
- The shift suggests Bungie is rethinking Marathon’s live-service structure due to the game’s poor performance.
Bungie’s Marathon has failed to live up to the studio’s past titles. In fact, the game is effectively running on fumes at the moment as it continues to lose players with each passing month.
Responding to the situation, Bungie has announced a huge shift in how Marathon’s updates will be delivered moving forward.
Why it matters: Bungie spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Marathon, hoping to keep the game active for many years just like its previous Destiny titles.

Bungie’s latest Development Update confirms that the team is no longer sticking to a traditional seasonal format for Marathon, with the studio changing how it plans to support the extraction shooter.
The developer also discussed Marathon’s Nightfall Refresh and Symbiosis plans in the same update. Moreover, Bungie is delaying the game’s next major update and permanent PvE mode to December 8.
Perhaps even more important is the fact that Marathon will introduce an experimental TDM mode on December 8. All of this is being done as a direct answer to player feedback over the last few months.

Bungie also confirmed that a smaller update will arrive in October to reset progression and the in-game economy. This will set the stage for the December update, giving Bungie time to gather additional feedback between October and December.
