- In particular, he argued that the CEO should have made better decisions with a project like Horizon Hunters Gathering.
- Following Jaffe’s comment, PlayStation also lost its longstanding partnership with Hideo Kojima.
PlayStation has recently made one bad decision after another, even going as far as ending its partnership with Hideo Kojima.
Of course, practically everyone in the games industry has taken note of these setbacks. The God of War creator even says that Sony should get rid of the PlayStation Studios CEO following these debacles.
Why it matters: PlayStation’s first-party teams have not been at their best this generation.
Discussing the recent reports regarding Horizon Hunters Gathering’s change in direction, David Jaffe noted that it should not have taken PlayStation so long to understand the project’s potential.
He argues that the gaming giant should have released a small playtest to gauge audience interest before having all of Guerrilla Games on the game. This was part of a larger discussion surrounding PlayStation’s live-service failures.
Jaffe argues that Hermen Hulst, the PlayStation Studios CEO, doesn’t really know what he’s doing.
Hermen has not been replaced, but he should be and probably will be.
Just days after this video, PlayStation has also lost Hideo Kojima’s Physint to Xbox, marking yet another failure on Hermen Hulst’s part. Although David Jaffe did not address this particular announcement in the video, he likely feels that his comments are even more justified following this announcement.
