The Special Edition Switch 2 Console Has Become Scalpers' Latest Target!

Story Highlight
  • The latest special edition Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are being listed for up to $1,000.
  • This special edition hardware is tied to Zelda’s 40th anniversary and is already sold out.
  • Nintendo has set a $520 price for the console, so scalpers are charging around 2x the MSRP.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake has led to mixed reactions over its graphics, but it seems almost everyone is fond of Nintendo’s special edition console celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.

Nintendo is offering the special edition Switch 2 console at just over $500, but scalpers have already doubled this price.

Why it matters: Scalping has become way too common in the games industry, with recent releases like the Steam Machine and the GTA 6 PS5 controller also falling victim to this practice.

Limited-edition Nintendo hardware has always attracted collectors, but The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary console is already seeing aggressive resale pricing. According to Kotaku, some listings for the special edition system have gone as high as $1,000.

Note that the console itself is currently available to pre-order and does not release until October 29. At the time of writing, however, the console is officially sold out across places like Amazon and Best Buy.

Even the official Nintendo Store lists the console as being sold out, so scalpers are taking advantage of the situation. Average listings for the special edition console ask around $700-800 for the console. However, as mentioned above, some are even asking $1000

For the curious, the 40th anniversary The Legend of Zelda Nintendo Switch 2 console also does not include the upcoming Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. However, it does offer an exquisite design that fans of the franchise are likely to appreciate.
