- The CEO behind Stellar Blade: Blood Rain has defended the project’s AI-based music video after heavy criticism.

- Fans and critics have pointed out that the issue has to do with AI-generated promotional art and it replacing human creativity.
The developer behind Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is facing criticism after an AI-generated music video tied to the project drew harsh reactions from players and gaming press. However, in the face of growing criticism, Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung Tae has defended the team’s stance on AI.
Why it matters: AI adoption is growing exponentially in the industry, yet its use remains a delicate topic among the masses. Shift Up’s latest video proves audiences aren’t fully on board the AI hype train just yet.

Over on Twitter/X, the studio’s CEO responded to the backlash by defending the use of AI, arguing that Evie, the character featured in the video, was originally created by the development team.
Evie was created from head to toe by our talented artists and modelers. The AI is not creating her from scratch.

Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung Tae hoped to dismiss concerns that the work was based on someone else’s creative material. However, this was not enough to convince upset critics of the AI promotional video.
Many pointed out that the studio should have used relied on the same “creative artists” who created the character to develop the promotional video. Many also reiterated that the video itself does not look all that impressive.

Of course, Shift Up is too invested into AI to step back at this point. In fact, many believe the studio will need to get used to the divisive opinions on AI use between Western and Asian audiences.
