They Have Really Low Expectations From The Upcoming Gears E-Day!

Story Highlight
  • A new report suggests that Xbox developers aren’t happy with the state of their games.
  • They say that the company is chasing franchises that are now past their prime.
  • They believe that Gears E-Day won’t be a hit and will have no impact on Xbox sales.

Asha Sharma’s tenure went off to a great start with a reduction in Game Pass prices, a hardware focus, and the return of exclusives. That hasn’t lasted long, as things have already started going downhill, and even its studios aren’t sure of anything.

A report claims that Xbox developers now believe that their biggest franchises are past their prime. This comes after the company has found a new focus on its flagship IPs like Halo, Gears of War, Doom, and more.

Why it matters: The recent Doom: The Dark Ages wasn’t a success at all, and you’d expect different from a monster franchise like that, so it does seem like the quality is deteriorating despite the big names.

The Game Business‘s new report has shed a lot of light on the current situation at Xbox. For context, the company is restructuring and is slated to hold major layoffs this year, which are being described as a bloodbath.

We’re chasing a declining market with franchises that are past their prime

The developers state that the company is chasing a declining market with franchises that are in decline. They say that they are spread across too many projects that prevent them from fully focusing on big projects

They don’t expect Gears E-Day to be a big hit

Of course, Forza 6 has done really well, so that doesn’t seem to be one of the ‘Declining franchises’. This likely means developers aren’t satisfied with the current status of other beloved franchises talked about earlier.

Furthermore, the developers also spoke about the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day, and claimed they have low expectations for the title, and don’t expect it to have any real impact on Xbox Series console sales.
