PlayStation is no stranger to having a rich catalogue of IPs that haven’t been utilised as well as they could be. With the company’s studios taking years to develop games this generation, some brilliant franchises have been forced to collect dust at PlayStation.
Rumors are circulating that the gaming giant is looking to revive one of these IPs, with Infamous reportedly getting a remake collection over a decade after the last mainline entry. As it turns out, other games could also be in line for this treatment, including Sly Cooper.
Why it matters: These classic PlayStation games have a core fanbase that would pay the premium to play a modern iteration of these titles.

Insider NateTheHate revealed on X that Sony is currently exploring the idea of reviving older PlayStation IP’s. The leaker responded to a fan’s question asking whether franchises like Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, and MotorStorm are set for a comeback.
According to NateTheHate, there is some truth to Sony considering a revival of its unused IPs, including the ones mentioned above. The insider also clarified that franchises like Uncharted or Bloodborne don’t fit into this category as they aren’t older games.
VGC Journalist Jordan Middler also hinted recently that some classic PlayStation games are in line for a revival at Sony, with Ape Escape getting a specific mention.

The last Sly Cooper game came out back in 2013 exclusively on the PS3, while the MotorStorm series has been on an even longer hiatus. A Sly Cooper revival has been long teased by insiders, with developer Sucker Punch also hinting at a future project. Furthermore, the last mainline Ape Escape title also came out over two decades ago in 2005. Hence, these classic IPs are long overdue for a new entry.
