Recently, PlayStation became wrapped in a huge controversy where it was claimed that if you don’t log in to your account for 30 days, you will lose access to your digital games. The company has now finally dropped an official word on this matter.

Sony has confirmed that the new PS5 DRM will only require you to do a one-time online check, after which you’ll be able to access your games like normal. So, after all, you won’t lose your games if you don’t log in often.

Why it matters: This will be a relief for many, as fans showed massive outrage over this new development, and there were even calls for a complete boycott of digital games.

PlayStation has clarified new DRM reports amid boycott threats

In a statement to GameSpot, a PlayStation spokesperson confirmed that players can continue to play their games as usual. There will only be a one-time check to confirm the game’s license, after which no check-ins are required.

The DRM has allegedly been implemented to tackle scam refunds. So, in easy words, you’ll have to verify once after the refund period is over, after which you won’t have to do regular log-ins to retain your library.

Now, it isn’t confirmed if Sony just folded due to all the backlash and decided to change the policy. Anyhow, even if the DRM was for a one-time check only, Sony could’ve done a better job communicating it to avoid the uproar.
