AMD Ryzen Prices Surge in Japan by Up to 57% — Intel Stays Mostly Unchanged

Ryzen Costs Soar While Intel Holds Steady!

Story Highlight
  • Retailers are seeing Ryzen CPUs spike by as much as 57%, hitting everything from current 9000-series models to older AM4 and budget chips.
  • Top-selling models like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 7800X3D are seeing significant double-digit percentage hikes.
  • While currently centered in Japan, these shifts suggest a trend that could eventually raise PC building costs in Europe and other regions.

Just two days ago, there was talk of CPU price hikes, with increases ranging from 5% to 10% for consumer models and 10% to 20% for server CPUs, which was awful news. We now have a very clear initial manifestation of this in stores. AMD Ryzen processors are seeing a sharp price increase in Japan, whereas Intel CPUs are barely changing, according to the data.

CPU AMD price list

In Japan, AMD is seeing double-digit price increases on many models, while Intel’s costs are steady or even slightly lower. We don’t know why Lisa Su’s company is suffering this, but Lip-Bu Tan’s isn’t. We should discuss what we can expect to see in Europe soon.

The most notable example is the Ryzen 7 9700X. This model has a minimum price of 59,800 yen and has increased by 21,801 yen, for a 57.4% rise, the most in the table. We’re talking about a CPU, a contemporary AM5 model with 8 cores and 16 threads, which is widely used in gaming PCs and general-purpose systems, a true sales leader.

The Ryzen 9 9900X also suffered a big price increase, going to 79,500 yen after earning 21,500 yen, or 37.1%. In the X3D range, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D increased by 22,600 yen, or 20.1%. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the world’s most sought-after CPU, has also seen a significant price increase: 76,800 yen, up 16,801 yen from its prior pricing.

The price increase isn’t limited to the Ryzen 9000 series, indicating that it came from the corporation rather than specific dealers, distributors, or stores. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D, one of the most sought-after gaming processors, is now priced at 67,800 yen, up 19,800 yen or 41.3%.

The Ryzen 5 7600 has risen to 35,979 yen, up 8,179 yen or 29.4%. Even variants with integrated graphics are on the list: the Ryzen 5 8600G is now 36,280 yen, up 8,780 yen or 31.9%, while the Ryzen 5 8500G is still 28,580 yen, up 6,000 yen or 26.6%.

Intel CPU Japan Price List

AM4 is no exception for this price increase, which presents a significant challenge for anyone considering this platform and CPU. The Ryzen 5 5700X has risen to 32,800 yen, up 3,000 yen or 10.1%. The Ryzen 5 5600GT now costs 26,500 yen, up 4,220 yen (18.9%). Other, less expensive versions have seen a smaller price increase: the Ryzen 5 5500 stays at 17,200 yen, up 1,220 yen, while the Athlon 3000G has decreased by 80 yen to 5,590 yen.

The comparison to Intel indicates a significant divergence. The Core Ultra 9 285K now costs 95,600 yen, down 1,380 yen from the previous minimum. The Core Ultra 7 265K remains at 47,780 yen, but its average price has decreased by 2,496 yen.

The Core Ultra 5 245K remains at 34,980 yen, with the average price falling by 800 yen. The Core Ultra 7 265F is one of the few to see an average price increase of 1,562 yen, while its minimum price stays the same.

For the time being, this data is from Japanese merchants, and AMD has not confirmed a global price increase to these levels, although, given the market in that country is so strained, lower increases are expected.

However, if this pattern spreads beyond Japan, creating an AM5 PC might become far more expensive, just as CPUs are already under pressure from server demand, artificial intelligence, and manufacturing capacity constraints.
