- Far Cry showrunner Noah Hawley says his show won’t adapt any of the games’ storylines.
- He argues players aren’t interested in the storyline of games and prefer skipping cutscenes.
- The lead thinks that the anthological storylines about human dramas are irrelevant.
The news of a Far Cry TV show being in the works at FX certainly excited many fans of the franchise. Gamers want to see the sadistic Vaas Montenegro or the antics of brutal dictator Anton Castillo on the big screen.
Unfortunately, Far Cry showrunner Noah Hawley says his show won’t adapt any of the game’s storylines.
So, only the franchise’s base formula will be realized in the adaptation. Noah went in this unorthodox direction because he thinks gamers prefer skipping cutscenes and only focus on Far Cry gameplay.
Why it matters: The stance of the Far Cry TV showrunner has offended gamers since the series is known for its beloved single-player storylines and well-written villains.

In an interview with Deadline, Noah calls it ‘death for a show’ to adapt human drama that is irrelevant to the storyline.
In other words, he finds the single-player campaigns and villains of the Far Cry franchise to be unnecessary since gamers supposedly prefer to quickly move through gameplay segments.
Games are built in a way that doesn’t make for the best drama.
Far Cry Showrunner, Noah Hawley.
His show will be anthological, with each season telling a different story of a civilized protagonist making increasingly wild choices to survive in extreme environments. However, none of these protagonists or other characters will have anything to do with the games.
when you go to adapt those games you have to be aware that makes the human drama kind of irrelevant to the storyline.

Gamers who were looking forward to the adaptation are now quite upset, especially at the showrunner’s dismissal of the Far Cry storylines. However, the show could still perform well if its villains and protagonists have the same allure as the games.
Do you think the Far Cry TV adaptation will impress gamers despite going for original stories that have nothing to do with the beloved villains? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
