The Survival Horror Title Will Be Like Shadow Of The Tomb Raider With Xenomorphs.

Story Highlight
  • According to Tom Henderson, the upcoming Alien game from Eidos Montreal is still in development despite layoffs.
  • The insider revealed that the project is safe, and the Canadian studio also has other titles in production.
  • Expected to be released in 2028, the new Alien will be a survival horror game described as Shadow of the Tomb Raider with Xenomorphs.

If one thing has stayed consistent in the gaming industry this year, it’s studios laying off developers left, right, and center. Epic recently fired over 1,000 employees despite owning the world’s most popular game, while Sony closed down another first-party studio and cancelled another project.

Amidst all of this, Deus Ex and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy developer Eidos Montreal also fired 124 people after cancelling a project that was in the works for seven years. However, as it turns out, the studio’s other games are still in production, including the new Alien title.

Why it matters: It’s good to know that Embracer hasn’t shut down a talented developer like Eidos Montreal, and it is still working on new games.

While speaking on the Insider Gaming podcast, Tom Henderson stated that the Alien game from Eidos Montreal is still in development. The insider claimed that the layoffs at the Canadian studio were due to the cancellation of Wildlands, a project that had already cost over $100 million and was in development hell.

These layoffs are related to Wildlands, they are not related to any other project. As far as I am aware, the Alien Game is still in development.

In addition, Embracer Group has also greenlit other games at the studio alongside the Alien title, but Henderson isn’t aware of their nature. All-in-all, the upcoming horror game is still in the works and safe from the layoffs at Eidos Montreal.

First reported last year, this new Alien project is going to be like Shadow of the Tomb Raider with Xenomorphs. Furthermore, the survival horror title will feature puzzles, parkour elements, and stealth similar to the Resident Evil games.

The upcoming Alien title will feature puzzles and parkour.

Players will control the character Aubrey, who has to survive against Xenomorphs and spec-ops units aboard a dystopian space station. With Ripley 8 from the movies also predicted to appear, the upcoming Alien game is expected to be released in 2028.
