"It Significantly Contributed To Financial Results Of The Quarter"

Story Highlight
  • There were calls for a boycott before Ghost of Yotei was released back in October 2025.
  • Sony says it sold better than Ghost of Tsushima in the same time period.
  • Despite doubts, the game has been both a critical and a commercial success.

Sony didn’t have many significant releases last year. Ghost of Yotei was the company’s major exclusive for 2025, and the expectations were through the roof. It did deliver for the most part, and apparently, the sales were decent as well.

The Japanese tech giant just released its financial report, and the company CFO has confirmed that Ghost of Yotei sold much better than Ghost of Yotei in the same time period and significantly contributed to their financial results.

Why it matters: Some people claimed the title was underwhelming from initial impressions, and there was also a call for a boycott. Regardless, it seems to have posted good sales for the company.

Sony’s tentpole release of 2025 apparently posted quite decent sales numbers

Sony just released its earnings report, boasting good figures and revealing that the PlayStation 5 has now sold over 92 million units. The CFO, Lin Tao, stated that Ghost of Yotei sales were really impressive.

Ghost of Tsushima, released in 2024 was a major financial success. It has sold over 13 million copies to date. But since its release, Sony says that Ghost of Yotei has had more sales compared to the first samurai game.

The sales were better than the original in the same time

Ghost of Yotei has had its fair share of controversies. Its protagonist was criticized, and the studio was called woke. This led to calls for boycotts as well, which didn’t really affect it, considering the reviews and sales.

Sony hasn’t really revealed any specific sales numbers, but according to its last report that released in November 2025, the title had sold 3.3 million units, so the sales numbers could be much higher now.
