  • The remake didn’t meet the publisher’s quality expectations despite development being restarted twice on it.
  • Additionally, 7 other projects at Ubisoft have also been delayed.

2026 was going to be the year that Ubisoft finally made its long-awaited comeback. Unfortunately, the French Publisher has endured another major setback, with one of the biggest guttings in the company’s history, which has shelved plans for a fan-favourite title.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has now been cancelled by Ubisoft. The title was cancelled because it didn’t meet the publisher’s enhanced quality expectations.

Why it matters: Prince of Persia has been consistently neglected by Ubisoft despite being a prized IP and a fan favourite. This latest cancellation is proof that the company didn’t care about the IP at all, or else it would have made good progress on it.

Ubisoft Previously Said That The Development On The Remake Was Going Smooth

Ubisoft has just gone through a massive organizational, operational, and portfolio reset that has affected its upcoming plans. The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake that was supposedly releasing in January has now been permanently shelved.

Initially led by Ubisoft India, development on the project restarted after the first reveal received poor reception. Then, Ubisoft Montreal took lead on the project and despite a second start to the development, the end result wasn’t satisfactory.

As for future plans, Ubisoft has decided to delay 7 of its upcoming titles to ensure that they meet quality expectations. In the past, the publisher has been releasing unpolished titles, due to which the initial reception has been mixed, damaging the company’s reputation.

Despite Being A Good Title, AC Shadows Was Launched In An Incomplete State Which Effected It’s Critical Success

Now, following the formation of their subsidiary with Tencent, they have undergone a major shift. It isn’t confirmed which games have been delayed, but 7 overall games have been delayed, including one that was planned for before April 2026.

The aforementioned game could possibly be Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake of the 2013 title. The game was said to arrive soon after the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, but apparently, it has now been pushed.

Now, the delayed title is planned for before April 2027, and the release for these other delayed titles remains unknown.
