The Game Is Only Trailing Elden Ring By 25 Awards Now.

Story Highlight
  • Expedition 33 has reached the second-highest number of GOTY wins ever recorded in history.
  • The game has won 410 GOTY honors, overtaking The Last of Us Part 2 by 84 awards.
  • The RPG is still 25 GOTY titles behind Elden Ring, which remains at the top of the list with 435 wins.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s domination this awards season has been one to behold. The RPG recorded the highest number of wins in The Game Awards history, while also taking home the coveted GOTY award.

Sandfall’s title has been praised worldwide, with Game of the Year wins spanning from Thailand to Japan. As it turns out, Expedition 33 has achieved another milestone, becoming the game with the second-most GOTY titles in history.

Why it matters: Expedition 33 achieving this level of success emphasises the importance of risk-taking in the industry.

As updated by a user on ResetEra, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has now won 410 Game of the Year awards this year, putting it second on the all-time list. The RPG has won 84 more awards than The Last of Us Part 2, which took home 326 GOTY honors at the start of the decade.

However, no matter how big a lead Expedition 33 builds over the Naughty Dog title, it is still below Elden Ring by 25 awards. The FromSoftware title is at No.1 in the all-time GOTY winner ranking, with 435 wins.

Considering how we are already two weeks into 2026, most of the Game of the Year awards have been handed out, so it will be a challenge for Expedition 33 to overtake Elden Ring.

Regardless, the Sandfall RPG has destroyed its competition this awards season, winning 376 more awards than the second game on the list, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which was awarded GOTY by only 34 outlets.

Expedition 33 has won 376 more GOTY awards this year than the no.2 title, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Furthermore, Expedition 33 has achieved this amount of Game of the Year wins despite AI controversy hitting the title in the middle of the awards season, with Indie Game Awards even stripping the RPG of its GOTY win due to alleged use of generative AI.
