The Studio Is Confident It'll Be Even Better Than Baldur's Gate 3!

Story Highlight
  • Larian Studios has confirmed that its next title, Divinity, will also be a turn-based RPG.
  • The game will launch in early access and will have a shorter development cycle.
  • The studio says that it’s confident the game will top Baldur’s Gate 3 as well.

Larian Studios finally revealed its next title, Divinity, at The Game Awards, after teasing it through the mysterious desert statue for days. Many were wondering when the title launches and what genre it’ll be, and the studio has clarified.

The Baldur’s Gate 3 developers have stated that Divinity will indeed be a turn-based title, similar to the previous games in the franchise. This will allow them to keep the development cycle shorter.

Why it matters: After Baldur’s Gate 3’s immense success, Larian is continuing the turn-based genre with Divinity, and claims that the next title will top even the Game of the Year 2023 winner.

Divinity, Larian’s next game, will once again be a turn-based RPG

Speaking to Bloomberg, Larian CEO Swen Vincke went into detail about Divinity. He said that the team thought it would be really hard to make anything better than Baldur’s Gate 3, but they think they’ve managed that.

It’s a turn-based RPG featuring everything you’ve seen from us in the past, but it’s brought to the next level.

Divinity will once again be a turn-based RPG, and development time will be much shorter. The studio is aiming to release the title in the next 3-4 years, unlike the 6 years they took with their last major project.

So, it means we could see a full launch around 2029-2030. However, the game could pop up earlier as well, considering it will launch in early access at first. Larian hasn’t commented on when we can expect that.
