Helldivers 2 has been one of the most thriving live-service IPs to launch in recent years, cementing PlayStation in the competitive genre. The title has continued to break milestones, but Sony wants to unleash more of its potential by bringing Helldivers to the big screen.

Hence, the publisher confirmed nearly a year ago that a live-action Helldivers movie was in development. A new report now confirms that the reimagining is being directed by Fast and Furious director Justin Lin.

Meanwhile, the Annabelle and It horror movie screenwriter, Gary Dauberman, will be responsible for the script.

Why it matters: The live-action Helldivers movie could turn out to be a staggering success under the talented director Justin Lin and screenwriter Gary Dauberman. However, not much about the story has yet been revealed.

Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 features a massive community due to its engaging gameplay.

The scoop comes from The Hollywood Reporter, implying that the movie is progressing smoothly despite there being no official updates after the original announcement.

The story revolves around an elite unit of Helldivers who will fend off various creatures threatening Super Earth. Justin wants to bring out the humanity in these characters, featuring timely themes and a built-out world. The worldbuilding will likely be faithful to Helldivers 2.

For those not in the know, Justin Lin is responsible for turning the Fast and Furious franchise into a multi-million dollar big-screen phenomenon during the 2010s.

Gary Dauberman is also a popular Hollywood scribe who is renowned for writing recent horror heavy-hitters, including the Until Dawn movie adaptation. Therefore, fans have incredibly high hopes for the Helldivers movie.

Helldivers 2 X Halo Crossover
The game has also had successful collaborations with other major IPs, like Halo.

We will likely find out about the rest of the cast in the near future, as the adaptation is likely years away at this point.

Do you think the live-action Helldivers movie adaptation will turn out well under the talented director and writer? Does a film make sense for the live-service IP in the first place? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
