CDPR Confirms The Witcher 4 Is Not Releasing In 2026

The New Witcher Trilogy Is Still Expected To Release In 6 Years.

Story Highlight
  • CDPR CEO has confirmed that The Witcher 4 won’t release in 2026.
  • Michał Nowakowski declined to release any new information about the title’s release but said production is moving according to plan.
  • In addition, the joint CEO emphasized that the trilogy will be released over the next 6 years.

So far, CDPR has been rather tight-lipped about when The Witcher 4 will launch. The Polish developer has been recruiting a lot of new talent to work on the project, including developers from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

But, as of yet, fans don’t even have a real glimpse of what boundaries CD Projekt Red is crossing for the sequel. Now, if the studio’s earnings call is anything to go by, we’ll have to wait a little longer to see what it’s making.

Why it matters: CDPR taking its time with The Witcher 4 is not a bad idea if it can use UE5 tech to deliver the whole trilogy in 6 years.

CD Projekt Red CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed in a Q3 earnings call that The Witcher 4 will not release in 2026. The joint CEO explained that the game is in full production, but he can’t disclose any details about its launch window at this time.

The only thing we’re commenting is that we’re not launching in 2026, and we’re also not typically getting into any specifics regarding technical or design matters.

In addition, the CDPR head also declined to comment on the technical aspects of the game’s development, saying The Witcher 4 is being developed at a normal pace and according to plans, with nothing being out of the ordinary.

Nowakowski emphasized that CD Projekt Red still plans to release the entire new trilogy in the span of just 6 years. Hence, The Witcher 5 and the last game in the trilogy will have a much shorter development cycle if things go according to the studio’s planning.

No matter when CDPR launches The Witcher 4, hype for the game is expected to stay thanks to the developer teasing giant technical leaps enabled by Unreal Engine 5, which will also benefit other developers.

With some of the industry’s best talent working on the project and CDPR giving players more freedom than ever before, The Witcher 4 is set to be one of the most exciting sequels of all time.
