Features An Increased Boost Clock By 400 MHz!

Story Highlight
  • AMD has confirmed the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, a refreshed version of the 9800X3D.
  • Most of the specs remain the same, but it boosts clock speeds by 400 MHz.
  • It is expected to be officially launched at CES 2026 alongside the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2.

AMD has been dominating the gaming CPU market in recent years. Specifically, its 3D V-cache offerings deliver the best gaming performance available, and it seems the company is ready to launch the subsequent iterations.

While not a formal announcement, AMD has confirmed the Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU on its website, an even faster version of its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the company’s best-selling CPU of all time.

Why it matters: Since AMD’s 3D V-cache processors are already ruling the gaming space, even faster versions of their chips will undoubtedly push them further ahead of Intel.

AMD’s official support page has confirmed the Ryzen 7 9850X3D.

There were rumors that AMD would soon reveal updated versions of its CPUs. The webpage for the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is now live, and it reportedly provides a decent upgrade over the last one.

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a base clock of 4.7 GHz, boosting up to 5.2 GHz. The new iteration will keep the base frequency the same but feature a 400 MHz increase, bringing it to a whopping 5.6 GHz.

The rest of the specs look pretty similar, with both featuring 8-core and 16-thread 3D V-cache technology. TDP is the same up to 120W, but since the 9850X3D offers higher clock speeds, it will be more efficient.

AMD is also expected to drop Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, its top-of-the-line gaming CPU, but that isn’t official yet. The formal announcements are expected at CES 2026, set to take place in just a few months.
