Ubisoft Is Apparently Working On Yet Another Live-Service Shooter

Expert Verified By

It Is Reportedly Being Built Using Unreal Engine 5!

Story Highlight
  • Earlier today, leaks revealed that Ubisoft was developing a competitive multiplayer shooter.
  • Now, an insider has leaked the first screenshots of the UE5 sci-fi FPS project.
  • It appears to be a large-scale multiplayer-only FPS with full crossplay support.

Ubisoft hasn’t had the best time with live-service projects, with the performance of games like XDefiant and its “AAAA” Skull and Bones making it obvious in recent years. However, the publisher is showing no signs of giving up on the high-stakes genre.

The reliable Rainbow Six and XDefiant leaker, Shiiny77, unveiled that Ubisoft is working on another competitive live-service shooter using UE5 earlier today. Now, multiple images of the multiplayer entry, codenamed Project Scout, have already leaked online.

Why it matters: Ubisoft might be looking to redeem itself after launching multiple live-service games that failed to stick around in the populated genre. However, many gamers are already questioning the publisher’s decision.

The images were leaked by @6leaksgg on Twitter, with one appearing to show a loading screen featuring a character gazing at a city from a tower. The sci-fi elements perfectly corroborate the previous leak from earlier today.

The other image showcases what appears to be bare-bones gameplay, basic UI elements, and a mini-map. The rudimentary gameplay and visuals make sense since Project Scout is likely in the skeletal stages of development.

Project Scout reportedly aims to be a large-scale competitive FPS experience with full crossplay support, but it might be years away from launch, given the current progress.

Ubisoft’s last attempt at a live-service shooter eventually flopped.

It may also have to compete with Bungie’s upcoming Marathon and other shooters to stand out. Ubisoft’s decision to use UE5 could give it a visual edge and the ambitious “large scale” it’s targeting compared to other live-service games.

However, it would have to launch in an optimized, bug-free state while having strong player-friendly monetization to retain a wider audience over time.

Regardless, Ubisoft has been radio-silent since the project’s existence spilled out, so it’s best to take the leaks with a pinch of salt until an official reveal.

Do you think Ubisoft’s new rumored shooter will see more success than its past few live-service endeavors, or should the publisher move on from the genre? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
