Multiple Unannounced Movies Are In Production!

Story Highlight
  • As per a new sales report, Nintendo is working on multiple unannounced movies planned to launch after 2027.
  • The company plans to launch new movies more consistently moving forward.
  • The known projects include the Super Mario Galaxy movie planned for 2026 and The Legend of Zelda one for 2027.

After a series of Hollywood woes, the film industry has seen a lot of well-performing gaming franchise adaptations on the big screen over the years. Nintendo was also quick to ride the rising tide with its highly successful debut of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023.

The company has realized the importance of adapting its popular IPs since then, announcing multiple new films that are planned after 2027. It aims to launch these projects more consistently, starting from next year, to keep up with competition and demand.

Why it matters: Nintendo has now doubled down on creating films based on its IPs in the evolving Hollywood landscape. Therefore, it’s only a matter of time before popular franchises make their way to the film industry.

Nintendo’s roadmap for planned and unannounced movies.

In a new sales report, Nintendo has revealed an official roadmap for its upcoming movies that are in development at various stages. It includes the awaited Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026) and The Legend of Zelda film (2027).

However, two thumbnails with question marks tease unannounced projects based on unknown franchises. They might be based on series like Metroid and Animal Crossing due to popular fan demand.

Currently, we are actively taking part in financing and are deeply involved in the production of multiple movies, from planning and development through to production.

These slots could also represent more than two movies since Nintendo outlines that it will continue ‘to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.’

Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo is also focused on developing first-party games for Switch 2.

Nintendo is working with Universal for the Mario movie and partnering with Sony for the Zelda one. But it’s currently unknown exactly who will helm these unannounced adaptations. We will learn more about these movies as they develop over the coming years.
