- Borderlands 4 has recorded the best opening month sales in the series’ history.
- It was also the best-selling game in September, beating Silent Hill f, FC 26, and more.
- Gearbox’s title has now also become the 3rd best-selling game of 2025 so far.
Borderlands 4 launched with all sorts of optimization issues, no thanks to notorious Unreal Engine 5. Despite the flaws, beneath it is a brilliant title and one of the finest games in the franchise, and that shows from the sales data.
New sales report reveals that Borderlands 4 recorded the best opening month in terms of sales for the franchise despite the initial negativity. However, the overall reviews still remain ‘Mixed’ due to the issues.
Why it matters: Even before the launch, the game got mixed up in a pricing controversy, which was later cleared, but post-release, even the bad optimization couldn’t hurt the sales much.
Mat Piscatella from Circana has confirmed that Borderlands 4 was the best-selling game for September, marking the biggest opening month of the franchise. It recorded 30% more sales than the previous record holder, Borderlands 3.
Borderlands 4 came out on top despite September being a stacked month for gaming. The releases included NBA 2K26, EA FC 26, Silent Hill f, and more, all of which appeared in the top 20 best sellers for the month.
However, despite this, the title has seen a dip in players as there seems to be less endgame material. Even most of the performance issues from the launch are still there, so Gearbox Entertainment has a lot of work to do.
Anyhow, the sales numbers will be a good motivation for them, and fans will be hoping that this will lead them to fix the title. It is already on sale on Steam, so we can expect a sales boost yet again.
