Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Heading To Both Xbox And Switch 2 In 2026

2026 Will Be A Big Year For Square Enix!

Story Highlight
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series S|X.
  • The game should arrive on both platforms at some point next year.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 version could make use of DLSS to ensure it runs well on the console’s limited hardware.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth followed up on Square Enix’s first ambitious remake of the Final Fantasy 7 trilogy last year. Released to shining reviews and industry-wide praise, the game quickly became a signature exclusive for the PS5.

Later, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth made its way to the PC platform, and it seems Square Enix is now preparing to expand the game to even more platforms.

Why it matters: These ports have been in development for nearly a year already, suggesting that they will arrive sooner rather than later.

According to the latest report from insider Nate The Hate, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will hit both Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles soon.

The game is currently on track to launch on these systems next year, and the insider believes fans will soon find out more about how well the JRPG will run on these systems. In particular, the performance on the Nintendo Switch 2 has raised eyebrows.

However, Square Enix’s work on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake port has garnered praise, and with the use of DLSS and other technologies supported by the console, a similar Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth port should also be doable, at least on paper.

Nintendo is currently rumored to host a new Direct later this week, so there is speculation about a potential Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth teaser showing up at this event. On the other hand, Xbox’s presence at the Tokyo Games Show, scheduled for September 24, could serve as yet another stage for Square Enix to make the big announcement.

Also, fans should expect to see Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s sequel launching on these platforms from the get-go due to Square Enix’s newfound interest in third-party platforms.
