With IO Interactive taking a break from the Hitman series, they’re taking on the James Bond series. 007 First Light will feature an original story, exploring James Bond’s early days as a secret agent.
007 First Light received a dedicated State of Play today and got its first-ever gameplay look. The initial reveal seems strikingly similar to the Hitman games, merging IO Interactive’s stealth expertise with traditional James Bond action.
Why it matters: There isn’t a better studio than IO Interactive to handle the James Bond franchise. The studio adopted an engaging method with 007 First Light that feels both familiar and fresh.
The gameplay sequence opens with 007 sneaking into a party, hunting a target. The opening is a typical Hitman opening, scouting the area and exploring possibilities.
The footage cuts into the mission going south, and 007 has to chase the target with a driving sequence. Ending at an airport, Bond engages enemies in heavy gunfights.
Later on, Agent 007 finds himself jumping on a moving aircraft on the runway. That is, the journey is cut short as Bond has to jump from an airplane thousands of feet in the air without a parachute.
The next footage shows typical espionage gameplay, and much like the Hitman games, 007 First Light will give players multiple options to approach a mission. Players have the added benefit of multiple gadgets and an arsenal of weapons.
Bond’s smartwatch makes every mission a playground for players, with countless possibilities. In a typical James Bond fashion, players can rely on his charm to bluff through enemy defenses and access areas they usually couldn’t.
Additionally, there are several dialogue options that are present in interactions. However, if things go south, Bond would have to fight his way through the enemies using takedowns, weapons, or even the environment.
