AMD Ryzen 9 9990X3D Becomes The Fastest Gaming CPU Outperforming 9800X3D

2.4% Faster Than The 9800X3D!

Story Highlight
  • AMD Ryzen 9 9990X3D is expected to deliver the best gaming performance on the market, narrowly outperforming the 9800X3D.
  • It is designed for enthusiasts who prioritize maximum performance over cost and power efficiency.
  • The processor is anticipated to be expensive, have high power consumption, and be available in limited quantities.

AMD is taking action behind the scenes, and some journalists and leakers are taking notice. The fastest CPU ever conceived for gaming must be in the works, even if FSR RedStone appears to be nearing completion.

According to 3DCenter, the 9990X3D will outperform the 9950X3D in terms of gaming performance, putting it around +2.4% ahead of the formidable 9800X3D.

No one should have high expectations regarding the FPS gains. In truth, the vast majority will not choose this model, which is destined to destroy everything. However, those looking for the best in all areas are in luck.

And that’s where AMD aims to hit: the best performance in all categories, without sacrificing a balance of power consumption and pricing.

AMD Ryzen 9 9990X3D

Let’s take a quick look at the specific percentages:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D -> 101.6%
  • AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D -> 100.0%
  • AMD Ryzen 9 9950X -> 81.0%
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9700X -> 79.2%

As we can see, the base, or 100%, is located in the 9950X3D, which makes sense because the 9990X3D has the same vertical cache in both CCDs, and logically, each chiplet will be gold type in AMD’s binning, so it will not be cheap, nor will there be many units available.

The problem is that it will fall far behind in terms of FPS ratio per euro invested and watts per FPS ratio. It’s only for those unwilling to compromise, able to cool over 200W under load, and ready to spend big.

It must be determined whether the presumed +4% is outweighed by an increase in latency between the separate CCDs, given the significant amount of L3 due to the extra vertical cache, which, regardless of our preferences, should be penalized according to architectural principles. It will be, although to a lesser extent than its twin, the 9950X3D.
