Also Hints At Plans To Finally Make A Movie!

Story Highlight
  • Hideo Kojima has shared plans to work on a movie after his next two games.
  • The director is currently busy with OD and Physint, which will take at least five more years.
  • Because of his age and development timelines, the two projects could be his last in the industry.

Hideo Kojima is often credited for many of the current innovations in the gaming industry. His contributions to the stealth-action genre stand out to this day, and the director’s latest project has been yet another hit.

Death Stranding 2 has received incredible reviews and is quickly shaping up to be yet another fantastic addition to his resume. Amid this success, Hideo Kojima has teased his potential departure from gaming.

Why it matters: Hideo Kojima has developed a reputation for doing things differently and breaking away from the norm. This makes him an essential part of an industry that otherwise likes to play it too safe.

During a recent interview, the developer discussed the next step in his gaming journey.

The director already has two major projects announced, OD and Physint. OD is being developed in partnership with Xbox and has survived the recent cancellations, while Physint marks yet another collaboration between Kojima Productions and PlayStation.

Hideo Kojima states that he plans to make a movie after these two games are out, and given the time required to make modern AAA projects, these games may end up being his last contributions to the industry.

Right now I’m working on OD and Physint, and after that I’ll look at the studio, and if I can make a movie, I’d like to make one.

For context, the iconic game developer is already 61 years old. Both Physint and OD will likely require at least five years to produce, so Hideo Kojima will be close to his 70s by the time he joins the film industry as planned.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but if Hideo Kojima’s plans come to fruition, the upcoming projects may end up being his final works in the gaming industry.

Nonetheless, the first two Death Stranding games have laid a solid foundation for Kojima Productions. The experience gained from these two titles should ensure the studio continues to deliver exciting titles, even without the legendary developer’s direct involvement.
