Chrono Odyssey Closed Beta Shows Significant Visuals Downgrade From 2023 Reveal

Fans Are Feeling Betrayed

Story Highlight
  • Chrono Odyssey is one of the most hyped MMORPGs, but it is currently involved in a massive controversy.
  • The developer released a gameplay reveal trailer in 2023, increasing the fans’ expectations.
  • However, the game’s closed beta has just recently been released, and there is too much difference in the quality.

Chrono Odyssey was officially announced back in 2021, and ever since, fans have had high expectations from the game. Its gameplay was revealed in 2023, which far exceeded the fans’ expectations, making them even more hyped.

Just recently, the title’s closed beta was released, and as expected, many players tried it. On Steam, the all-time peak of the closed beta reached nearly 66k, which is pretty impressive. However, what’s not impressive are the visuals, as they don’t look nearly as good as the reveal in 2023.

Why it matters: Many developers increase the fans’ expectations by showcasing unrealistic gameplay reveals years before the game’s release and end up not meeting those expectations. This has become pretty common in the gaming industry.

As you can see in the image above, the difference isn’t small; it is massive, and that is a major concern. For those not in the know, the developer officially called the 2023 video gameplay reveal, so fans are feeling betrayed by this massive difference in quality

This looks like ground for a lawsuit lmfao.

Its like those Mobile Game ads.

This type of false advertising should be illegal. Comapnies do it way too often, but Chrono went overboard with it.

-Fans

The fandom is throwing a tantrum on social media, with some even claiming that this is false marketing and opens up grounds for a lawsuit, which does make sense. However, we would advise fans not to jump the gun as this is only a closed beta and the full game has yet to be released.

There isn’t a release date given, but it is expected to be released late 2025, so the developers are expected to implement the fandom’s feedback by then, or that is what we hope to happen.

When the gameplay reveal was released back in 2023, the fandom was very excited, with many having a collective opinion that this game has a lot of potential. It truly has a lot of potential, but that totally depends on the developers now.

It is also worth noting that there are still stock animations being used, which is even more concerning. Hopefully, the developer manages to fix the major concerns before release.
