Nintendo itself has also chimed in on the conversation, stating that the current demand for the console far exceeds expectations.

The company reports that approximately 2.2 million applications have been received from Japan alone, setting the stage for an incredible launch day.
Unfortunately, Nintendo will not be able to meet this demand on launch day. The company has stated that those who end up missing their chance during the first lottery will be able to try again in the second lottery automatically.
Nintendo has also ramped up production following unexpected demand, with plans to ship as many units as possible within the first year. Anyhow, this demand means that a new record could be on the horizon for Nintendo.
The PS2 currently holds the record for the most launch weekend console sales in Japan, shipping nearly 1 million units. Nintendo’s statement implies that this record should be easily beatable for the Switch 2.
Similarly, the original Nintendo Switch is edging closer to beating the PS2’s lifetime sales. As such, the Switch family may beat multiple PlayStation records by 2026.
