- The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered has given the classic RPG a huge makeover.
- Bethesda and Virtuos began working on the project in 2021, marking four years of development.
- During this time, the team reworked animations, art, special effects, and more.
Bethesda and Virtuos have officially unveiled The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered, and the game is now available to play for millions of gamers on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.
Following a series of exciting leaks, the team shared an extensive look at the project. Bethesda later shared a message regarding the project on social media, confirming that this remaster had been in the works for four years.
Why it matters: Remasters typically require less time to produce. The Elder Scrolls Oblivion is more of a remake, even if Virtuos and Bethesda’s naming scheme implies otherwise.
According to Bethesda, the project initially began as early as 2021. This was before the team released Starfield, marking a long journey for both Bethesda and Virtuos.
The team states that everything, including the animations, art, and special effects, was touched up for the remaster. Other systems, such as the progression, were also modified to achieve the best possible results.
Effectively, Virtuos remade the game from the beginning, using Unreal Engine 5 to breathe new life into The Elder Scrolls Oblivion. It makes sense, then, that the team spent nearly four years on the project.
As per Bethesda, the reason it avoided using the remake terminology when referring to this project was purely to preserve the core essence of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion while shifting it to newer technology.
Concluding the message, Bethesda thanked fans of the iconic RPG franchise. The team is clearly proud of everything it has achieved, marking this launch a remarkable moment for everyone involved in the development process.
