PlayStation Has Released 8 Different Iterations Of The Last of Us So Far

So Many Versions Just Across 2 Titles!

Story Highlight
  • The Last of Us games have received 8 different versions across the two games in the series.
  • The first game was released in 2013, and the most recent release was the Complete Edition a few days ago.
  • The franchise is the most remastered and remade game in all of PlayStation’s franchises.

The Last of Us is undoubtedly among some of the best PlayStation franchises to date. The two titles are praised for their emotional storytelling and gorgeous visuals. However, it seems that Sony is just too obsessed with the franchise.

From 2013 to now, PlayStation has released a massive 8 iterations of The Last of Us games. Notably, there have been just two titles in the franchise, and all the rest are either remakes or remasters.

Why it matters: PlayStation has become notorious for remastering games that don’t even require the treatment, but with The Last of Us, the company seems to have gone too far.

The Last Of Us
The First The Last of Us Game came out in the year 2013.

Hefe is a list of all the different versions of the game we’ve seen so far:

  • The Last of Us (2013)
  • The Last of Us Remastered (2014)
  • The Last of Us Part 2 (2020)
  • The Last of Us Part 1 (2022)
  • The Last of Us Part PC (2023)
  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered (2024)
  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered PC (2025)
  • The Last of Us Complete (2025)

Funnily enough, the two games in the franchise spread from the PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 5 and PC, where each platform got its version of the game. This is especially disappointing for fans who wanted a sequel to the second game.

The Last of Us Complete
The franchise has since received 8 different iterations of 2 games.

Neil Druckmann recently confirmed that there are currently no plans for The Last of Us 3, so fans will have to do with the existing ones. Luckily, the TV show is showing great promise and has already been renewed for season 3.

Overall, a sequel will remain an idea, as PlayStation is too adamant about remakes and remasters. However, for fans wanting a Naughty Dog game, you can look forward to their new IP, Intergalactic.
