Story Highlight
  • The launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has led to a revival of older games in the series.
  • The biggest increase was observed with Origins, followed by Odyssey and Mirage.
  • Overall, an average of 27% increase in player base was observed across the board.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has done a decent job for Ubisoft. It hasn’t helped the company bounce back completely, but it has still increased some of its stock value. It has also resulted in increased engagement with older Assassin’s Creed games.

According to new data, 9 older Assassin’s Creed games have seen a huge resurgence, leading to an average of 27% increase in their player count on PlayStation consoles after the release of Shadows.

Why it matters: Shadows has been quite a successful launch, gaining 3 million players already, and it has even helped revive the player base of older titles in the franchise as well.

Shadows has helped increase the player count of older Assassin’s Creed (via TrueTrophies)

TrueTrophies has revealed that all games in the series have seen a comeback since Shadows’ release. The biggest increase was seen with Assassin’s Creed Origins, which recorded a massive 51.9% increase in players.

It was followed by Odyssey and Mirage, which saw a 39.4% and 32% increase, respectively. Even very old ones like Assassin’s Creed 2, Liberation, and Black Flag saw people jumping back into the titles.

Assassin's Creed Origins
Assassin’s Creed Origins saw the biggest increase in player count.

Despite an over 25% increase in the player count, Valhalla still constitutes only 16.7% of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ players for the same period. This shows that the latest game is doing pretty well for Ubisoft.

On another note, Ubisoft has partnered with Tencent to launch a new subsidiary, including popular IPs like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. It will work not only on these IPs but also on new projects in the future.
