Hazelight May Have Another GOTY On Their Hands!

Story Highlight
  • Split Fiction from the creators of It Takes Two could be our first strong GOTY contender.
  • The title has released to an extremely positive reception and around 200K players.
  • The game director hopes to win the award again but knows there will be competition.

Just three months into 2025, we might already have one of the strongest contenders for the Game of the Year Award. It Takes Two, and A Way Out studio just came out with Split Fiction, and it is getting universal acclamation from fans and critics.

The game released yesterday to ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews and around 200K concurrent players on Steam, cementing its place as a strong nominee for the GOTY award this year.

Why it matters: Hazelight Studios already won the prestigious award back in 2021 with It Takes Two, and now it has continued the tradition of great releases with Split Fiction.

Split Fiction Featured
Split Fiction has become a huge hit just 2 days after its launch

Split Fiction became the first EA title in 13 years to score 90+ on Metacritic marking a huge achievement. Moreover, all the critic and user reviews are almost perfect. Even the game director showed his intent to win the GOTY award again.

Josef Fares said it’ll be great if they can win the award with Split Fiction as well, but he knows it will be really difficult if GTA 6 comes out in 2025. Nonetheless, many other great games are planned for this year too.

The title could be the first solid GOTY contender of 2025

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was also a solid release, in addition, Death Stranding 2 also comes out this year. While highly controversial, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is also set to launch soon, and the early impressions are all very positive

Anyhow, with Q1 2025 already delivering great titles, we can’t wait to experience the rest of the releases. Hazelight Studios has done a great job with Split Fiction even keeping alive the thrill of couch co-op games.
