In the last decade or so, Capcom has become one of the most successful publishers on the planet, and a big reason for this is the triumphant Monster Hunter IP. The last game in the franchise sold over 23 million copies, and the hype for the sequel, Monster Hunter Wilds, has been through the roof.
The RPG was already among the top 3 best sellers on Steam months before release, and the reviews have backed up the hype, calling the game bigger, better, and bolder than anything in the series. Capcom recently released the sales figures for the game, and as it turns out, Monster Hunter Wilds is breaking records all across the globe.
Why it matters: Monster Hunter Wilds was predicted to be one of the industry’s main driving forces this year, and its success is a positive sign for gaming.
According to a press release from the Japanese publisher, Monster Hunter Wilds has sold over 8 million units in just 3 days, making it the fastest-selling title in the history of Capcom. The game has surpassed all Capcom franchises to break this record, including juggernauts like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter.
However, this success is not surprising, as Monster Hunter Wilds has been hyped for over a year. Its beta testing drew almost half a million gamers on Steam, and the RPG was already the most wish-listed title on the platform.
These numbers translated to a mega launch on Steam as the game peaked with more than one million players.
Furthermore, such strong sales are a positive sign for the gaming industry, too, as many were banking on Monster Hunter Wilds to boost sales in the sector alongside GTA 6 this year. Hence, we can say with assurance that 2025 is off to a positive start.
