New Studio, New Engine!

Story Highlight
  • Activision’s new studio is working on a new open-world, multiplayer game.
  • The title will be narrative-driven and will debut a new game engine as well.
  • Activision opened Elsewhere Entertainment to focus on a ‘genre-defining IP’.

Last year, Activision launched a new standalone studio promising to focus on a ‘genre-defining AAA franchise’. While not much has been revealed since then, some new information from Elsewhere Entertainment’s upcoming game has emerged.

According to a developer working on the game, it is going to be a narrative-based open-world title that will debut on a new game engine

Why it matters: For the longest time, Activision has used its tried and tested IW engine with its Call of Duty games. The new studio will take a departure from that debuting new development hardware for the company.

Activision’s new studio game will debut a new engine

Łukasz Nizik, Senior Expert Network Programmer for Elsewhere Entertainment recently updated their LinkedIn and spilled new details about the company’s new project. The thing that stands out the most is the new engine.

New IP, new engine, open-world, narrative, multiplayer

The game will reportedly feature an open-world setting and will be multiplayer and narrative-driven. Now, no further details have been revealed, so we can’t say what the story will revolve around.

The new engine is a bold move as Activision is essentially allowing the studio to move away from the IW engine, which has been vital for the Call of Duty games. The engine has generally performed well with decent graphics and optimizations.

So, it will be interesting to see what sort of upgrades or changes the new one brings. For now, this is all the information we have on the title right now. We hope Activision reveals more information soon.
