- Creative Director at Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has called out Eurogamer for a low Metacritic score.
- Daniel Vavra revealed that the site refused to review the first game.
- Fans also amplified Vavra’s feelings, calling it disgraceful journalism.
After some controversy and much anticipation from fans, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is finally out on all platforms today. And, players will be delighted to know that the RPG has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics all over the world, debuting with an 89 Metacritic rating.
However, not all reviews have been positive, with some outlets giving the game a low score. Eurogamer is one such site, rating Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 rather poorly on Metacritic with the developer calling out the website for this score.
Why it matters: Developers calling out journalists over unusually low review scores is a significant change in gaming culture that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Daniel Vavra called out Eurogamer for the average score of 60 among a flurry of extremely positive reviews, saying that last time the outlet refused to give them a score.
Fans in the replies also pointed out that Eurogamer gave the universally panned Dragon Age: Veilguard a perfect score of 100 on Metacritic and declared its criticism of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 disgraceful journalism.
Many fans supported Daniel Vavra’s critique of Eurogamer, pointing to the perfect review of Veilguard as proof of the site’s questionable credibility and claiming the low score reflects the outlet’s bias. Considering how gamers panned the BioWare RPG across the board and it failed to be a commercial success, the fans do have a point.
Overall, the RPG has received acclaim from critics and fans alike, surpassing its predecessor by a mile. The Eurogamer review might have soured the proceedings for Daniel Vavra but the creative director has a lot of positives to be happy about.
