Has Nearly 1000 Negative Reviews In Less Than 24 Hours!

Story Highlight
  • Spider-Man 2 has failed to live up to Nixxes and PlayStation’s optimized PC releases.
  • The game is currently bogged down by crashing, visual glitches, and poor performance.
  • Steam users advise waiting for a few patches before buying the game.

PlayStation’s entire Spider-Man franchise is now available on PC. With a history of optimized ports and impressive numbers on the platform, Spider-Man 2 was poised for similar success on PC as its predecessors, but the game has been met with mixed reception.

Over on Steam, reviews currently sit at Mixed, with many pointing out various issues with this PC release.

Why it matters: The Spider-Man 2 system requirements suggested it would not be as easy to run as most PlayStation PC titles, but fans still thought the game would run well overall.

Of the 1,423 Spider-Man 2 reviews on Steam, only 55% are currently positive.

As such, the game has gathered around 640 negative reviews in less than 24 hours since its release. This is a completely different reception than most PlayStation PC ports, typically praised for being optimized across the board.

Looking at the reviews, Steam users have pointed to problems like stuttering, crashing, audio desync, and all types of bugs. Users also report lighting issues, unexpected behavior when using certain abilities, and potential GPU driver issues.

Crashing seems to be the biggest problem for now, with some reviews pointing to as many as five crashes within a single hour of gameplay. Overall, it seems Nixxes has more work left to do.

The reviews advise PC gamers to hold off on a Spider-Man 2 purchase and wait for additional patches.

Because the game leaked in the past and a playable build became accessible on PC, Nixxes and PlayStation may have rushed out the official port to minimize damage. This could explain the unusually buggy release from Nixxes.

At the very least, Spider-Man 2 sports a lower $60 price tag on PC than its $70 console counterpart. Because the game’s current performance is far from desirable, waiting for additional discounts is currently recommended.

Until then, PC gamers can turn toward PlayStation’s other PC ports, recently freed from regional restrictions and made available to a wider audience.
