Nvidia has slowly cemented itself as a giant in the GPU market space, influencing both the gaming industry and the AI scene over the years. Its massive presence has made competition extremely difficult.
Now, the company wants to up the ante by entering the desktop CPU market to challenge the competition and further dominate the market.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has expressed plans to penetrate the PC CPU scene by releasing a mass-produced processor. The firm only recently launched the Linux-based AI computer dubbed Project Digits, which features a staggering 20-core Arm CPU.
Why it matters: Nvidia entering the desktop CPU market could completely shift the scales of the current competition. Currently, AMD is steadily increasing its influence by stealing Intel’s market shares month by month.
A report by Reuters claims that Jensen Huang addressed investors with the answer that the company indeed has plans for its desktop CPU. However, he claimed that he would ‘wait to tell you’ what they are.
He further reassures: ‘You know, obviously we have plans,’ and elaborates that Nvidia wants to make that a “mainstream product”.
We’ll support it with all the things that we do to support professional and high-quality software, and the PC (manufacturers) will make it available to end users.

It’s worth noting that Nvidia has already expressed plans to enter the PC CPU market in the past to compete with giants like Intel and AMD. Many rumors regarding the GPU maker’s work on an ARM-based processor for PCs have circulated for a while.
