However, this sudden wave of attention might have backfired for Okami HD, as prices of its physical copies have soared into the hundreds at various retailers.
The physical copies of Okami HD previously sold for $15 to $20. But now, to acquire a piece again, you need to pay over $150 on eBay.
Why it matters: The price gouging of Okami HD’s physical copies sheds light on a toxic culture in which game prices can skyrocket if their value suddenly increases.
On retailers like eBay, price gouging has caused the cheap Okami HD physical copies to sell for as much as $190. The most affordable option, the ‘buy it now,’ goes for a $150 price tag. Another auction is currently being haggled for $65.
The huge price increase can be attributed to the sudden attention Okami HD is getting because of the sequel reveal. The entry is also seen as a collector’s item for gamers who prefer physical copies.
For those not in the know, Capcom recently confirmed its plan to revive many of its old franchises that fans still love, following the Onimusha and Okami sequels.
Overall, the best way to purchase Okami HD for Switch might be through Amazon, where copies for $29 are still available. If a digital copy is enough, the game is available for a huge discount of only $5 on Steam and the PlayStation store.
