Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched to impressive reviews and promising day-one figures on Steam, but the excitement around the game has mostly dwindled since then. BioWare’s latest RPG also failed to secure a Game of The Year nomination at The Game Awards 2024.
As things looked grim for the studio, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was named The Times’ Game of The Year. Following this surprising announcement, the RPG has entered the race for another major award, securing its second Game of The Year nomination.
Why it matters: BioWare’s return to the RPG genre was much anticipated around the industry. However, fans were not too blown away by the studio’s latest release, creating an air of disappointment around the series.
The latest nomination comes from IGN, with the outlet selecting various titles for its ultimate award this year. Fans should note that these nominations are much more extensive than those of other outlets, including the following titles apart from Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- Balatro
- Astro Bot
- Black Myth: Wukong
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
- Silent Hill 2
Many of these nominations are far from surprising since games like Black Myth: Wukong and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have already received plenty of praise this year. The outlet has also included MachineGames’ recently released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
This nomination is quite fitting since this title is Xbox’s best-rated release this year. The full list of nominations is available in the video below.
Fans have had mixed reactions to Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s nomination so far. Many have remarked that BioWare’s RPG could have been replaced with more deserving games on the list, but some have also been glad to see the title receiving some recognition.
