- An early preview of Dragon Age: The Veilguard call it a GOTY contender and a BioWare Comeback.
- The game has received some backlash for the underwhelming gameplay and graphics.
- Its pre-order numbers are also quite concerning, but the previews point toward a decent experience.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard got its first hands-on impressions with a select audience. Despite various reports that the game does not look that good, the early previews are quite solid, with even one calling the game a solid contender for the GOTY award.
Why it matters: With The Veilguard extremely down in Steam’s sales charts, and the general consensus around it not that positive either, many do not seem to be too hyped around BioWare’s latest offering.
Many websites recently got their hands-on on Dragon Age: The Veilguard and they had a lot of positive things to say. GameRant has even called the game a ‘definite GOTY contender, while others are calling it a ‘BioWare comeback’.
According to the previews, the game has a fantastic and gripping story. Even the companions feel very compelling, and the mechanics are really good too. It is also surprisingly free of bugs, unlike some older BioWare titles.
With some recent failures like Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda, BioWare isn’t on the best of the streaks when it comes to successful games. However, that could change with the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
But, there are a lot of glamouring issues around the game that do stand out despite the positive previews. For one, many are calling it out for the inclusion of DEI, which ruins games as we’ve seen with others like Concord, Suicide Squad, and more.
It previously received some backlash for the combat and graphics not looking great. Others are calling it out for moving away from the Dragon Age’s roots that they so dearly love.
However, the gaming community has learned the hard way to wait for a full launch before jumping to any conclusions. The title is now just 10 days away and will come out on October 31st, 2024.
