Black Myth: Wukong will be a success story for years to come. It is a game that has single-handedly put Chinese game developers at the top of the industry. The game has been so successful that even three weeks after launch, it’s still averaging 1 million players on Steam.

Why it matters: Usually, games lose their player base when the hype around them dies. But Black Myth has seen that rare instance where a single-player game is still boasting a massive player base even though it’s been over 20 days since the launch.

Game Science’s masterpiece launched on August 20 and broke multiple records. It hit a peak concurrent player count of over 2.4 million on Steam, not only becoming the second-biggest game in history but also the first single-player in terms of players. 

Furthermore, even the reviews speak volumes about how good the title actually is. Black Myth currently boasts over 700K positive reviews on Steam, taking it to an overwhelmingly positive score. It is also still the 2nd top-selling game on the platform.

Over 95% of Black Myth’s reviews are positive.

This also makes it a huge contender for the Game of the Year 2024. However, it has solid competition from Astro Bot and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, both of which have been excellent releases. 

Black Myth was a breath of fresh air for the industry in which great games are becoming more and more rare. It doesn’t do anything revolutionary, but is perfect in everything it does from gameplay to graphics to boss battles and everything. 

Capitalizing on the success, Game Science also plans to launch 2 DLCs for the game. At first, they wanted the game to be longer but couldn’t because of budget constraints, but that won’t be something holding them back anymore.
